Starting Small

2017 is creeping up on us, guys! What are we going to do about it?

Lots of people say that on New Years, you are supposed to set a goal for the new year. But sometimes it’s hard to keep up with your goal. How do we make sure we keep it?

Here is my system: start small.

One year, I had planned to make 100 or so hats for kid she with cancer. In the end, I made about 6. I was really disappointed in myself, but I realized what had happened. I had set too large of a goal for myself, and I wasn’t able to keep up with it… obviously. What now? Instead of setting a goal to make 100 hats in the whole year, maybe I should just have made a goal to make 5 hats a month. That would have been more reasonable. Sure, it wouldn’t add up to 100 at the end of the year, but I would have more than 6 to give to kids in need.

Here is my challenge for you. Set yourself a goal—a small one—and see how much you will be able to do! It may even be something like practicing an instrument every day, doing your devotions, or maybe working out twice a week.

Believe me, it is important to set goals for yourself. Not only does it make you feel more accomplished, but you make yourself a stronger person.
